$540,000 to accelerate the renovation of 45 housing units for vulnerable individuals

In the context of a housing crisis marked by an increase in homelessness and the urgent need for action to reduce this phenomenon, the City of Montreal has announced an investment of $540,000 to accelerate the renovation of 45 housing units in the SHDM’s real estate portfolio intended for vulnerable individuals.
Through this financial contribution, the City of Montreal and the SHDM are joining forces to bring approximately forty housing units on an accelerated timeline. The necessary renovations will make these units available by the end of August 2026.
Thanks to this funding, the SHDM will coordinate and oversee the restoration work on the housing units, a task normally carried out by the various organizations that manage these buildings.
“Accelerating the renovation of housing units is one of the levers we can use to quickly provide housing for vulnerable individuals. This $540,000 financial contribution will enable the SHDM to optimize the completion of renovation work on an accelerated schedule, while giving our partner organizations more flexibility to support tenants. 45 units will be available by the end of August, among the 700 units in the SHDM’s housing portfolio intended for a vulnerable clientele. It is by collaborating together and capitalizing on our respective expertise, that we can find concrete solutions to Montreal’s housing challenges,” said Sophie Rousseau-Loiselle, general manager of the SHDM.
