Due to renovations on the 22nd floor of 800 Boulevard De Maisonneuve E., the SHDM’s in-person reception has been temporarily transferred to the 21st floor. The mailing address remains unchanged.

Please note that some departments have been temporarily relocated to other SHDM buildings; please refer to the instructions provided in the communications you receive should you need to visit.

Official inauguration of the Marcelle and Jean Coutu residence for women in situations of vulnerability and at risk of homelessness

The SHDM is proud to highlight the official inauguration of the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Residence, a building with 26 studio apartments that has been housing women in situations of vulnerability and at risk of homelessness for the past year. As the owner of the building, the SHDM has been working from the beginning of the project with the nonprofit organization Chez Doris, which manages the residence while providing psychosocial support to the tenants.

With a project budget of $7.2 million, this initiative was made possible thanks to a financial contribution of $5.1 million from SHDM’s own funds.

“This residence is a great example of a real estate project developed by the SHDM teams that makes a real difference for vulnerable populations in Montreal. This building with 26 studios is in addition to the 168 housing units for vulnerable people that we have built in recent months in the Ville-Marie borough. I would like to thank all the partners involved, both public and private, as well as Chez Doris, who made this project possible. It is proof that by collaborating and joining forces, we can find solutions together to provide sustainable housing for people in precarious situations, » explained Sophie Rousseau-Loiselle, Managing Director of the SHDM.

With the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Residence, the SHDM now has 194 new units dedicated to people in vulnerable situations: 114 on Christin Street, 54 on Atateken Street, and 26 here on De Champlain Street.

This project was made possible thanks to the commitment of the following partners: the Government of Canada (CMHC), the Government of Quebec (SHQ), the City of Montreal, and Chez Doris.

International Women's Day

On this Women’s Day, let’s celebrate the significant presence of women in our organization, especially in decision-making roles.

At the SHDM, we have 69 women – employees and administrators – who inspire, bring their expertise, passion, and leadership at every level of the organization.

Diversity is essential for SHDM. By allowing women to thrive and succeed, we contribute to creating a more equitable and inclusive professional environment.

Everything isn’t perfect; we would also like to see more women among our blue-collar workers!

Inauguration of Quebec's largest apartment building dedicated to the fight against homelessness

The SHDM is proud to announce the opening of the Le Christin building, with Accueil Bonneau. The inauguration took place this morning, in the presence of the Minister responsible for Social Services, Lionel Carmant, and the Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante.

The 114-unit building, with its remarkable architecture, is the largest real estate project dedicated to the fight against homelessness ever built in Quebec. The building is located at 330 rue Christin, between rue Sainte-Catherine and boulevard René-Lévesque, in the heart of Montreal’s Latin Quarter.

With a construction budget of $23.5 million, this ambitious project was made possible thanks to financial contributions from the Quebec government and the City of Montreal, and the close collaboration of the Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal (OMHM). The building, owned by SHDM, is operated by Accueil Bonneau to help people experiencing homelessness find residential stability.

« With this new building, the SHDM demonstrates its expertise in developing innovative real estate projects that have a real impact on the community. By working closely with Accueil Bonneau from the outset of the project, we have created a new, stable living environment for a vulnerable mixed clientele. The SHDM teams are proud of this project, the largest of its kind in Quebec, which was financed to the tune of over $18 million from its own funds, » said Sophie Rousseau-Loiselle, SHDM Managing Director.

An innovative model of social diversity

More than 80% of the 114 new Christin units will benefit from Rent Supplement Program, allowing residents to pay 25% of their income for housing. The project’s innovative model will allow for a unique social mix, as different tenant profiles will cohabit in the building, including men and women, couples, students, refugees, seniors, Aboriginals and people from the LGBTQ2+ community. In addition, 20% of the units are reserved for residents who do not require special support, who will live alongside people in vulnerable situations, thus offering a unique and diversified living environment.

Inauguration of Pavillon Robert-Lemaire: 54 New Housing Units for Men Facing Housing Insecurity or Homelessness.

The SHDM is proud to inaugurate the Pavillon Robert-Lemaire today, in the presence of the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec, the City of Montreal, and Maison du Père. This new building, consisting of 54 studios, provides housing for men who face housing insecurity or homelessness.

Since December 1, the new units on Atateken Street in the borough of Ville-Marie have been welcoming at-risk men independent enough to live in a community setting with reduced supervision. This safe, modern living environment is adapted to the needs of its tenants and has a day staff of social workers. Designed around an interior courtyard with a separate entrance for each apartment, the project will help residents become more independent while a providing a foundation of social support as well as a common room for getting together.

This $13-million project was made possible thanks to support from the City of Montréal and close to $5 million in funding from the Government of Canada provided through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) as part of the Canada–Quebec Agreement on the first round of the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI), Major Cities stream, along with direct SHDM funding of over $5 million. In addition, through a grant from the Major Residential Renovation Program, the City of Montréal and the Government of Quebec each contributed $1.2 million. Finally, the Government of Quebec is also allocating 54 rent supplements so that residents will spend no more than 25% of their income on housing.

The SHDM will continue to own the building, which will be managed by Maison du Père.

But none of it could have happened without the cooperation of all the partners laying the foundations so that 54 men, in insecure situations or homeless, can sign a lease for the first time and receive support from Maison du Père. »
