Acquisition of the Édifice Jean-Brillant
The Société d’habitation et de développement de Montréal (SHDM) today announced the acquisition of the Edifice Jean-Brillant, located at 3055 rue Delisle, a 124-unit affordable housing property in the Saint-Henri sector of the Sud-Ouest Borough. The non-profit organization Maison Biéler Inc. is transferring to the SHDM the emphyteutic lease it has held since the building was constructed in 1982 and which will expire in 2034.
« We are very proud of the acquisition of the Édifice Jean-Brillant, which represents an opportunity to ensure the sustainability of these 124 affordable housing units intended for an elderly and independent clientele in Saint-Henri, » stated Nancy Shoiry, Executive Director of the SHDM. « This transaction is perfectly in line with the objective identified in our 2017-2020 strategic planning to increase our affordable rental housing inventory. »
« We have found in the SHDM an organization that shares our concerns and has the expertise to perpetuate the community legacy of Maison Biéler Inc. This sale will give us the financial resources to continue our mission of supporting military veterans by offering them services that are better adapted to their contemporary needs, » explained Daniel O’Connor, Chairman of the Board of Maison Biéler Inc.
About Maison Biéler Inc
Maison Biéler Inc. is an organization that was founded in 1976 with the mission of providing affordable housing for veterans and their widows. When our veterans left the World Wars and Korea, it was an opportunity for Maison Biéler to change and update its services to veterans. The creation of the organization, Le Sentier – Maison de transition inc., is a concrete expression of this objective by helping veterans, including those who are homeless, reintegrate into society. With the help of partners, Le Sentier will support veterans in their journey toward wellness. The services offered will give our military veterans in need the opportunity to access a better quality of life.

SHQ-Message to our residential tenants
The SHDM wishes to inform you that the Société d’habitation Québec (SHQ) has set up a financial assistance program for tenants to pay their rent in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this program is to temporarily support tenants who do not have enough cash to pay their May and/or June rent, in whole or in part, due to the loss of their job, stoppage of work or reduction in the number of hours worked in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.
This program applies to the entire territory of Québec, with the exception of Indian reserves. It allows tenants to take out an interest-free loan for a maximum fixed amount of $1,500, enabling them to pay their May and/or June 2020 rent, in whole or in part.
The financial assistance is paid directly to landlords.
Information on this program may be found on the SHQ website.
Hopefully this program will help some of our tenants.
Take care of yourself.
